Season to season Japan offers a wide variety of unique experiences. From Yonaguni Island's 10,000 - 15,000 year old underwater ruins, and peaceful island lifestyle, Isagashi Islands massive schools of Hammer Heads and Mantas to the all anticipated holy grail of underwater experiences, the Whale Shark, to the beautiful Cherry Blossom Festivals and food to die for, both divers and non-divers have an abundance of experiences to enjoy.
One of Japans most anticipated and controversial dive destinations are the Yonaguni Ruins. Located on the Southern and Western most point of Japan, Yonaguni Island lies only 60 miles away from the Eastern coast of Taiwan. Discovered by Kihachiro Aratake, this massive pyramid like structure lies 15-130ft below the surface and is said to be the oldest evidence of advanced human civilization ever discovered. Although some scientists believe that this structure in its entirety was created by man, other believe this structure was man-modified. Either way, these ruins contain evidence of an advanced civilization 8-13,000BC and while still in the works of scientific debate, it could very well re-write history.
Whether you're diving in Okinawa, Yonaguni, Ishigaki, or sightseeing, Japan is a wonderful place to experience. A place that should be seen by everyone.
