HammerHead Shark (Mikomoto Island, Izu - Japan)

Mikomoto Island is located 11 km south from Shimoda City, Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka prefecture.  There are no inhabitants on the island.  Izu is a world renowned dive destination for large schools of Hammerhead Sharks that can be seen from Summer to Autumn.

Mikomoto Island has something the locals refer to as "black current" which attract many species of fish and sea life such as:  Japanese amberjack, amberjack, yellow tail, several species of shark, long tooth grouper, asian sheepshead wrasse, green turtle, stingray, Japanese eagle ray, yellow striped butterfish, chicken grunt, large scale blackfish, red snapper, butterfly fish, filefish etc.

A very impressive sight to see hundreds of hammerheads during the temperate waters of Summer to Autumn.
